The board of Close Brothers Group plc announces that Sir David Scholey retired as Chairman of the company at the conclusion of its Annual General Meeting today, 1st November 2006.  Mr. R.D. Kent succeeded Sir David as Chairman at the same time.

In addition Mr. P.S.S. Macpherson, the Senior Independent Director, was also appointed Deputy Chairman at the same time.
